What’s Included in the Course

Uniform & Essential Field Gear

Each student receives the required uniform and core field equipment at the start of the course, including binoculars, a backpack, and prescribed study materials.

This equipment package is valued at approximately R15,000 and ensures students are properly prepared for field-based training.

Accommodation & Daily Living

Full-board accommodation is included for the duration of the course, along with all meals and laundry services.

Students are able to focus entirely on their training without managing external living arrangements.

Structured Excursions & Training Support

Training includes hands-on emergency response practice and structured field drills designed to prepare students for real reserve conditions. Emergency evacuation cover is provided throughout the programme.

Private Big 5 reserve • Applied guiding exposure • Real reserve operations

Two Weeks at Maloba Game Reserve

Two full weeks of the programme are spent training at Maloba Game Reserve — a private reserve with established Big 5 activity. This is not a short excursion or observational visit. It is a dedicated training placement where students operate in a different reserve environment, applying guiding principles across varied terrain and wildlife conditions.

Spending two consecutive weeks in a private Big 5 reserve deepens practical exposure, strengthens adaptability, and builds confidence under real field conditions.

The NQF2 Nature Site Guide course is a 9-week, full-time residential programme based at Olienhout Game Reserve in the Northern Cape.
